NFL Weekly Recap: Week 7

A recap of Week 7 action in the NFL on the road to the 2018 Super Bowl in Minneapolis.

Thursday Night Thriller

An AFC West showdown, the Kansas City Chiefs, thought by many to be one of the best teams in the AFC, would travel to Oakland to take on the Raiders on Thursday Night Football, in a game that was anything but boring.

Starting the game’s final drive from their own 15-yard line, the Raiders faced an 85-yard field with 2:25 remaining in the 4th quarter, down 30-24. Leading the drive was quarterback Derek Carr, who had previously been out with a severe back injury. And after penalties, touchdowns called back and a back-and-forth between the refs, Carr would hit wide receiver Michael Crabtree for a two-yard touchdown, with no time remaining, on an untimed down, leading the Raiders to a 31-30 victory.

Super Bowl Rematch

One game many had circled on the NFL calendar from the beginning of the season, a rematch of Super Bowl LI as the Atlanta Falcons traveled to Foxboro to take on the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

While many have become accustomed to hearing about the Patriots 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI, their rematch in Week 7 was not as close, with New England dominating the entire game. Quarterback Tom Brady would throw for 249 yards and two touchdowns in the win, getting the better of Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who would throw for 233 yards and one touchdown.

Wentz Shines on Monday Night

Rounding out Week 7 in the NFL, a classic NFC East showdown would take place on Monday Night Football, with the Washington Redskins taking on the Philadelphia Eagles. A tale of two quarterbacks in this game, as second-year QB Carson Wentz showed down with Redskins’ QB Kirk Cousins.

While both QBs would shine, it was Wentz who would put his #2 overall pick pedigree on display, tossing for 268 yards and four touchdowns, including the a 64-yard dime above. Cousins, who’s future is uncertain in Washington, wouldn’t shy away himself, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns.
