Super Bowl XIX featured the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins. The 49ers took home the Super Bowl trophy 38-16. The game was played on January 20, 1985 in Stanford, California at Stanford Stadium. The referee of the game was Pat Haggerty and there were a total of 84,059 people in attendance.
There as a lot of hype going on about this game. Most of the hype was about the two quarterbacks who would be in attendance. Dan Marino of the Dolphins and the 49ers Joe Montana were the “hyped” up quarterbacks that made for an excellent game to watch. Each quarterback threw for over 300 yards. As you can see, the 49ers ended up dominating the game with a final score of 38-16.
This was ABC’s first time televising the Super Bowl. President Ronald Reagan was also the first sitting president to participate in the coin toss ceremony. Ronald Reagan didn’t leave the White House, but instead, was televised directly from the White House. The cost of a commercial went up tremendously this year, with it costing around $525,000 for 30 seconds of air time. There were also a total of 85.53 million viewers watching in on the game.
