NFL Weekly Recap: Week 2

Week 2 of the NFL season! As teams are beginning to find their groove on the road to Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, we’re recapping the week that was.

Kansas City Chiefs: Real Deal?

After a surprise beating of the defending Super Bowl champions in Week 1, the Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid were at home to take on Reid’s former team, the Philadelphia Eagles, in one of the more anticipated matchups of Week 2.

In a game that was a defensive struggle early, the Chiefs would put together a 21-point second half to defeat the Eagles 27-20. Another big day from rookie running back Kareem Hunt fueled the victory, with 13 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns, as well as a big day from tight end Travis Kelce, who garnered 103 yards and a touchdown on 8 catches.

Cowboys Stunned by Broncos

In America’s Game of the Week, a game that many thought would be a close contest, the Denver Broncos were able to put the hurt on the defending NFC North champs, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 42-17.

Of the many surprises of the game, the Broncos staunch defense was able to hold Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott to just eight yards rushing on nine attempts, a career low for the second-year back. Many after the game questioned Elliott’s involvement and work ethic in the game, as it appeared the hustle was lacking at times.

But it wasn’t just the Broncos defense that carried the team. Quarterback Trevor Siemian completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 231 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception, and running back C.J. Anderson rushed for 118 yards and added on touchdown as well, an offensive attack as good as any in the league.

NFC Championship Rematch

The highlighted game of the week, the Sunday Night Football matchup and 2016 NFC Championship rematch, between the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers. Despite an unconvincing victory against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, the Falcons were opening a brand new stadium in a primetime game, and many expected a bounce back from the team.

The Falcons dominated the Packers for nearly the entire game, leading 34-10 going into the 4th quarter, and eventually walking away with the 34-23 victory. Falcons running back Devonta Freeman recorded 87 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while reigning league MVP Matt Ryan threw for 252 yards and one touchdown.
